Comment Replies.

Okay.

I've been a bad bloggy friend, and I know this.

The first step is to admit it, right?

Anydoucher, I've decided that the reason that (some of) you people are blatantly ignoring the comment section on my blog is because I've stopped replying to them, like a gracious blogger should.

So I've decided to change that. From now on, if you comment on my blog, you will get a reply. The only thing is, I don't know what to do. Should I post the replies in groups as a comment? Or should I hit each person back with an email?

I need your help, peeps. Let me know what you think.

This is NOT a hand out looking for comments, Mandy.

Also, just to let everyone know, SIGH, tomorrow is the day for our Tyra show to air. It will be on at 4 PM CST, and our segment is the first 10 minutes of the show. For the record, they make me look like an evil doucher, just so you know.

The Memoir Monday next week will be all about our experiences on the show. Speaking of Memoir Monday, y'all really kicked me in the nuts this week. We had 4 people play along. I guess if attendance doesn't improve, I'll cut the meme like a second string field goal kicker. That's real.

So let me know. Public reply or private?

  1. It depends on what you feel like doing.

    On one hand you have:
Replying to a comment within the comment section.
This works great, but 1)Your readers will have to keep coming back to see if you replied and that gets redundant much much.

On the other hand you have:
Replying to a comment via email (so long as the commenter has an email attached).
This, to me is more personal. There's more chance to open dialog with people you may not know. This is the route I take...

    Unless:
I feel like I left something out and someone called me out, then I'll reply in a comment so that all my readers can see it.

    Make sense? Yes? Good!

  2. I think it depends on the comment. If it's a personal comment and you have a personal reply (aka, private) do things privately. Otherwise, share your joy of getting comments with the world. =)

  3. way to make me look like an asshole, doucher.

i was gonna say i can't wait to see the tyra segment because i want to expose to the world what an evil whore wench she is. now i just wanna see it to make fun of you. doucher. just kidding. :)

  4. Because I follow so many blogs, I sometimes forget to go back and read through the comments to see if there's a reply to me, so in my case, email works better. But thats just me.

BTW, My Hubby specifically asked me to see if you could read my blog today. I posted about a fight we're having and he seems to think you'll side with him. Something about needing less estrogen in my commenters :P

  5. A comment doesn't require a conversation, it's a comment. It's not like we're in person and I say "haha, I like your hat" and you have to reply so you don't look like a socially backward jackass.

If you're not getting comments, then either your not getting read or your readers don't have anything to say about it. It's not because they're afraid you won't start a conversation out of it, you know?

I don't know man, this does kinda sound like a request for more comments. Be confident and write for you, not for comments.

(I won't see your reply, I don't subscribe because I don't want to get everyone else's reply, and I don't want to keep checking back on this specific post in hope that you said "Yeah, that's your opinion" or something. you know? Just write to write.

  6. I've been wondering about the best choice for comment replies as well. So far I stick to email, because my assumption is that most people aren't going to check back repeatedly. Meh. I dunno.

  7. There are pros and cons to both ways. I suggest you do what ever is easiest and fastest for you. Though I do enjoy seeing your comments to others, I can live with a private reply, too. I thought there was a way to do both. Email that goes to your comment section, too. But that could be me just thinking again. I gotta lay down now.

  8. Eitherway works dude. I've tried doing both with mine. Moooog style (all bunched up in one comment)and Adrienzgirl style (individual email replys) and even Veggie Assasin style (replying to comments with individual comments). None are easy, but people definitely seem to enjoy the feedback better than none. It's like aknowledgement that you read their comment, I guess.

Anyway, I'll probably miss the Tyra thing, but hopefully can catch it online before STL so I can give you shit about it.

  9. I like doing them in the comments section because sometimes you can be just as funny if not funnier than in your blog post.

I'm talking about me, not you.

    You probably knew that.

  10. Eh, I hardly EVER get comments, so I still think that you're doing okay :) I don't neccessarily comment on anyone's blog to get a comment back, I just like letting them know that I've read and what they said struck me in one way or another.

  11. I do try to reply to most comments by email, if they have one attached to their profile. If not I'll reply on the blog.

Like another person said it is difficult to remember to come back and check the comments on every blog so I like an email reply... or better yet come comment on my blog!

I've mostly been too busty to comment on other blogs and I think that ALSO kills commenting on mine.

  12. When I do get a chance to reply to comments, I do it individually via e-mail. Don't cut Memoir Mondays! I've been uninspired as of late. I'm so DVRing tomorrow's Tyra!

  13. You have to be careful with that. I've replied to comments via email before, only to realize later that it was sent to "no-reply@blogger.com" so they didn't see my response to their comment.

But if you respond via your comments section, if they're not subscribed to follow-up, they won't see it, either. Still, I'd rather run that risk than send an email to the nether regions of the Internet.

Anydoucher (which I love, by the way), I've started back from my bloggy break, in case you're interested.

  14. That's not my reasoning at ALL!!! I'm like you; I read but sometimes don't have time to comment. I expect that most folks are that way. I love your blog and read it daily. I've just got so many that I follow now, and my time is so limited with the Shorties, I just can't find the time some days.

I apologize for being a bad friend, but I do read you. I still have the hots for you. I am still your #1 stalker. You should still have a restraining order filed against me.

  15. I'm way behind here ... what Tyra show? Are you Ed's baby daddy and the DNA test is going to be revealed in front of a live and rabid studio audience? Fill me in!

  16. I like the reply with an e-mail option. I NEVER check back to see if the blogger responded. I WILL never know if they did or not. It's too time consuming and hard to remember what you commented on it and then go back to see if you got a reply.

    But, it's whatever tickles you.
If you go with the reply within the comments option...don't bother with me, I won't come back to check if you replied to my comment. :P

  17. Hey. You had 5 last Monday. I sent you an email, but you didn't read it. I don't think you know who I am, or you ignore me, or you hate me. It's ok, I'm still a fan. LOL

  21. Is it the show about jealous neighbors or did I miss it today?

  22. I do both; comment via email (if one's provided) and comment in the comments section if it's something that I want the rest of my followers to read or if there's no email provided.

When I was only following one or two blogs, it was easy for me to go back and recheck the comments sections on the blogs, but now it takes me two hours just to get through my blogroll, I rarely go back and re-read a comments section.

  23. I love Memoir Monday, I just don't always have something to blog about. I try to forget as much shit about my life as I possibly can.
